* TRAVEL ADVISORY* - Don't miss out on at least one or two of these tours as they really add to your travel experience. Educational, cultural - and fun!

SPICE FARM TOUR

It is not by chance that Zanzibar has long been known world-wide as the Spice Island. The Sultans of Oman were originally attracted to Zanzibar by ivory, slaves and spices such as nutmeg, cinnamon and cloves. Our half-day tour of a working spice plantation is a sensory delight as our guide introduces you to each spice and you get the chance to learn more about their medicinal, cosmetic and culinary uses. Great place to purchase spices and oils.
Tour includes: transport, guide, entrance fees and a delicious spicy lunch cooked in traditional Zanzibari style.

( * included in our Zanzibar Getaway package )

WALKING CITY TOUR

Stonetown is the largest, intact, ancient Swahili town on the African coast and has been designated by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Iconic studded doors line the enticing alleyways of this fascinating city. Included on this tour: House of Wonders (once the Sultan's official palace and now a very good museum), the old Omani Fort which is host to many Festival events and the Anglican Cathedral built over the site of the former slave market. Some excellent gift shops and galleries enroute. Half day tour includes transport, guide and all fees except Palace Museum entry fee.

PRISON ISLAND BOAT TRIP

Once used as a prison for rebellious slaves by the Sultans and as a beach retreat by the British, this pretty island just off the coast from Stonetown makes for a great day trip. Excellent snorkelling and sunbathing on a pristine white sand beach. Makes a terrific break from hot and busy Stonetown. Home to protected species of giant tortoises, originally given to Zanzibar by the Seychelles during the late 19th Century. Picnic lunch and boat transport included. Leave in the morning and return late afternoon. Grand!

JOZANI FOREST TOUR

This is now a national park and represents the last intact area of indigenous forest left on Zanzibar. Home to the red colobus monkeys found only on Zanzibar.
You will also see small buck, chameleon and bush pigs - perhaps even the elusive Zanzibar leopard said to feed here at night ( although the species may well be extinct ).
Excellent nature trails to walk with your guide. Nature centre with tea room. Includes entrance fees, transport and guide. Half-day - less than an hour's drive from Stonetown.

PRINCESS SALME TOUR

Tour starts at the birthplace of the famous princess - Mtoni Palace. Princess Salme was born into the royal family - her mother was among the Sultan's harem.
She married a German merchant and escaped with him to Europe, only to be disowned by her own Omani family. Walking tour with your guide around the Persian baths and the main palace ruins - now part of a hotel complex. Enjoy a twenty minute boat ride to Bububu where you will be introduced to a traditional coffee ceremony that includes Kashata, Halua and dates. Next, we travel by donkey card, as Princess Salme herself must have once done, from Bububu to Kidichi which has its own Persian baths - from which we return to Stonetown. This half day tour includes guide and transport.

DOLPHIN TOUR

This is set up as an afternoon trip, designed to both avoid the morning tourists and to avoid over-stressing the resident dolphins. We head to Kizimkazi, a small fishing village on Zanzibar's south coast, which is home to several schools of Bottle-nosed and Humpback dolphins. Opportunity to " swim with the dolphins " and snorkelling is great here. Bonus: Kizimkazi is also the site of a 12th Century mosque marking the earliest evidence of Islam in East Africa.
Transport, guide, snorkelling gear and lunch are all included on this half day tour.

SUNSET DHOW CRUISE: Daily between 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

A romantic evening watching the sunset, aboard one of Zanzibar's iconic sailing dhows. The sounds and smells of busy Stonetown begin to fade as you cast away with only the laps of the waves to lull you as your dhow slices through the azure waters of the Zanzibar channel. Your guide will be there with you on your voyage, along with your captain.
Complimentary light snacks and sodas. Back by approximately 6:30 p.m.
depending upon the tides, and transport back to your hotel in plenty of time for dinner. Dhow rental, guide, transport and snacks are all included.
